Golden Circle Tour

This tour was absolutely incredible! We started off at Laxnes Horse Farm in Mosfellsbær. This family run farm was founded in 1968 and is home to some of the most beautiful horses I have ever seen. (A few famous celebrities such as Marisa Tomei, Ben Stiller & John C. Reilly have visited this farm). Each rider was paired with a horse that suited his or her level of comfort – since I have only ridden a couple of times, I was given Odin who was very gentle and smooth to ride. The whole trip took about an hour and we rode up into the mountains which was breathtaking. We took a quick pit stop to take pictures and then we were divided into two groups for the ride back (those who wanted to go faster and those who wanted to go slower – I chose faster of course!). After our trek, we enjoyed a nice meal of soup and freshly baked bread while waiting for the remainder of our tour. It was a wonderful experience that I will never forget 🙂

From Laxnes, we stopped by Þingvellir National Park which is home to the oldest existing parliament in the world. It is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site and is also a protected national park.

Then we went to see Iceland’s most famous waterfall – Gullfoss which is located in the canyon of the Hvítá river. I’ve seen photographs of this stunning waterfall but they truly do not do it justice – it is even more magnificent in person.

From Gullfoss, we went to see the famous Strokkur (the churn) geyser. Strokkur is a very powerful geyser that spouts every few minutes and can reach up to 40 m. It was really amazing to be so close to this natural geyser and watch it erupt several times.

I booked this tour through Viator and it was worth every penny. It was extremely well organized, the tour guides were wonderful and every stop on this trip was fascinating. I would recommend this tour to anyone visiting Iceland – you will make memories to last a lifetime!
