Wellington, New Zealand

This is the first thing we saw upon arrival at the Wellington airport…

This is what nightmares are made of.

We arrived later at night, so we decided to get a good nights rest and head off to the Te Papa Tongarewa Museum in the morning.

The Museum was excellent. We learned a lot about New Zealand culture and were able to see some pretty interesting artifacts.

After the Museum, we took a stroll around the city and grabbed a bite to eat. There was a great little sushi place that had a sushi train. The sushi was incredibly fresh – I think we ate there almost everyday. The following day, we wanted to recharge our batteries so we decided to have a beach day.

Beach day!

Feeling rejuvenated, we decided to do some more exploring. We checked out the Weta Cave which has all kinds of props and collectibles from movies such as The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, The Hobbit & Mad Max: Fury Road. They do behind-the-scenes tours that explain all about the processes used to create the different props and costumes. If you have an interest in learning about all the hard work that goes into creating these popular films, then this place is for you.

Do not touch this precious statue. See what I did there?

The next day, we took the cable car from Lambton Quay to the Wellington Botanic Garden, which was very beautiful.

I was also able to check another item off my bucket list – visiting a planetarium! Sounds nerdy, but it was amazing. The Carter Observatory was excellent. The Observatory has an excellent film that you can see and the planetarium itself is very interactive. Perfect place for anyone looking to learn more about astronomy and have some fun while doing so.

We had a blast in Wellington. Our next destination: Auckland.
