Great Barrier Reef

From Darwin, we flew to Townsville and did a boat tour that took us to the reef. It was pretty choppy for some of the ride (some people were getting sick – it was not a pretty sight!) but luckily we had Gravol so we made it without throwing up all over someone 😀

We had the option to snorkel, scuba dive, get a relaxing massage or just sit back and relax on the top deck. Kira and I both chose to go snorkeling. I almost backed out because of a mild anxiety attack due to the choppiness of the water and my fear of water based activities, but I realized that this was probably a once in a lifetime opportunity…so I put my mask back on and hoped for the best. Once I was able to stop myself from hyperventilating, it was actually quite fun!

After we finished snorkeling and my breathing had come down to a steady pace – we both decided to treat ourselves to a massage. It was absolutely amazing – worth every penny! Seeing as how uncertain the future of the reef is, I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to enjoy it’s beauty. Truly a once in a lifetime experience.
