Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort AKA Shark Bay

Kira & I were intending on coming here together but the flight sold out so it became a solo mission for me. I’m so glad I decided to go because I had the time of my life – even though I did miss my sidekick – it was a beautiful place to sit back and relax before the rest of our trip.

Below is my “boarding pass” given to me at the “airport” (I was waiting for a Flintstone’s type plane to come pick me up at this tiny airport). I was terrified for my life but it worked out just fine and I made it safely to the island!

Looks legit.

As soon as I put my bags away, I went straight to the beach. The first thing I see are dolphins being fed at shore. They have three feeding sessions a day that you can watch for free and sometimes even participate in. These bottlenosed dolphins have been coming to shore for over 40 years and they are gorgeous. The next day I was swimming and two of them swam up right beside me – it was amazing!

The next day I decided to go on a Sunset Cruise. Everyone on the boat seemed to be looking longingly into each other’s eyes while I was there solo – but I had a great time!

Sunset cruise!

I wanted to see more dolphins and other wildlife so I went on another cruise the next day. We saw tiger sharks, stingrays, sea snakes and a dugong! We also saw a stonefish (one of the most venomous fish in the world) that had come up to shore which is pretty rare as they tend to stick to the bottom of the ocean. What a wonderful few days!

More dolphins!

The stonefish – not known for his beauty.
